Dialed In Dating

The Scientifically Soulful Online Dating Community
— ABOUT TERRY

I didn't set out to become a dating coach.

I set out to figure out why online dating felt so good to me and so exhausting to almost everyone I knew — and to build something that actually closes that gap.

— THE STORY

My Story and Why I Wrote This eBook

“Online dating has become the most common way for Americans to find romantic partners.”
Stanford University School of Humanities and Sciences, 2019

Thanks to algorithms, meeting online has become the most popular way U.S. couples connect and commit. Bots beat friends and family as their main matchmaker: “…more than 50% of couples meet online, a little more than 20% in a bar or restaurant, and only 15% met through friends”.2

Online dating’s here to stay – and that’s a good thing: it’s a 24/7-accessible, not-egregiously-priced bridge to real, viable partners. Yes, there are head-scratcher moments but it’s all pretty low-stress.

I’ll take swiping any day of the week over having to do what used to feel like a death march back in the day – having to walk across some bar or dance floor, mind racing with clever openers, wondering if I’d get her to talk to me, if she’d blow me off, or even what she’s like. Too much drama!

After a failed marriage about 4 years ago, I downloaded my first dating app. I was curious and fascinated. I still am, and enjoy the whole process- connecting, getting to know like-minded women (I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad first date). Overall, it’s been terrific with only a few bumps.

Lately I’ve been hearing more grumbling from guys and women about how much they “hate” online dating. A 2019 American Trends Panel survey of American singles said 45% percent feel frustrated with the online dating experience, and 47% of singles say dating is harder today than it used to be.

I realized the problem isn’t just that many don’t always share my enthusiasm for online, but that there was more going on under the hood of the online dating world that I needed to investigate.

So, I spent over 2 years deep-diving into psychosocial research, interviewing singles, helping them craft their profiles, and did a lot of self-reflection. I learned that like most “non-native” activities, becoming a talented, happy online dater requires us to use our unique gifts of personality, looks, energy and strategy. I really enjoy coaching people on the last two. They’re the key to safely catch your right matches and unlock fun, success, adventure, romance and personal growth on the apps.

Dialed In Dating™ exists because many people said to me in some way, “I wish someone had just told me that before I spent years doing it all wrong.” This book is me being that someone for you.

Like any tool, dating apps will only work well for you if you know how to work them well: anything you’ve done well in your life implies you’ve consciously or unconsciously applied winning strategies to get your happy outcomes. Online dating is no different. You just need to know how to apply the right ones the right way, in each situation. Ok, now let’s make that happen for you!
